Welcome to our Jacob Sheep page.
The Jacob Sheep is a unique breed that was developed in England about 350 years ago.  The name Jacob was attached to the breed, referring to the ancient Hebrew story of the dealings between Jacob and his father-in law Laban.  This story of Jacob's striving to produce a flock of spotted sheep and goats is thought to be the earliest record of intentional selective breeding.
A Jacob sheep is primitive, domestic, multi-horned, white with black or lilac spots. They are small in stature, with mature ewes being 80 - 120 pounds, the rams being 120 - 180 pounds.. The Jacob fleece is open, soft and light with little lanolin.  The white and black wool may be blended to form various shades of gray,  or the colors may also be separated at shearing to produce various shades.  The fleeces generally weigh 3-6 pounds with a staple length of 3-5 inches.  The wool is considered to be a medium grade, Bradford count of 46-54. We have several fleeces available, both black and lilac.
